Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a full bladder for an ultrasound?

Do I need a full bladder for an ultrasound?

Whilst some urine in your bladder is helpful, with modern ultrasound it is rare that bladder filling producing discomfort is required. One glass of water 30 minutes prior to your scheduled examination is typically all that is required.

May I bring a support person with me?

May I bring a support person with me?

We welcome the presence of your partner or close friend during the ultrasound examination, but do restrict the number of support people to two. Children less than 5 years of age rarely find an ultrasound examination interesting and we would encourage you to find childcare for them or bring an adult who can take them for a walk if they become restless. Please do not bring your children if you are scheduled to have an invasive prenatal diagnostic procedure such as a CVS or amniocentesis.

Do I need to bring a referral letter for my ultrasound appointment?

Do I need to bring a referral letter for my ultrasound appointment?

It is a mandatory requirement of Medicare Australia that a medical referral from your doctor (with a valid reason for the scan) is provided for each ultrasound examination. This referral may be posted or faxed directly from your doctor’s rooms to us (facsimile number (08) 93821927) or brought with you on the day of your examination.

When will I pay for my ultrasound examination?

When will I pay for my ultrasound examination?

We require payment in full on the day of your examination. We are not a bulk-billing medical practice, however you will be able to claim a portion of your account from Medicare Australia (if your referral has a valid reason for the scan). A costing for your ultrasound examination will be provided to you by our reception staff when you make your appointment. View our Billing and Fee Structure.

What keep-sake images will I receive at my obstetric ultrasound?

What keep-sake images will I receive at my obstetric ultrasound?

Womens Imaging Services has commenced using Tricefy, an online platform for image sharing. The Tricefy image-sharing tool enables you to access images of your pregnancy on your mobile device. You can also readily email or text images of your baby to family and friends. We will provide images of your obstetric ultrasound direct to your mobile telephone at the conclusion of your examination. These images will remain active on your mobile telephone for 90 days, following which they will no longer be accessible to you. Please download the images to your computer or image storage system soon after your ultrasound to avoid loss of your keep-sake images. In keeping with current technology expectations, we no longer provide DVD or hard copy images of the obstetric ultrasound examination.
