Common reasons for an ultrasound during pregnancy include:
- Pregnancy dating
- Vaginal bleeding or pain in early pregnancy
- Screening tests for fetal well-being at 12 weeks gestation (First Trimester Screening) and 19 weeks gestation (Fetal anatomy survey).
- Cervical length assessment for women at increased risk of preterm birth
- Fetal growth and wellbeing assessment in the third trimester
- Placental localization
- Multiple pregnancy
- Interventional procedures (amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling)
